Why Choose a Compound Archery Bow?

Whether used for target shooting or hunting, archery compound bows are fun to shoot and quite a bit different than recurve bows. They have many of the same design features, such as upper and lower limbs, a riser with a sight window, and angle grip handle, and both can accept accessories added to them. One of the differences between a recurve archery bow and a compound archery bow is that the compound bow is usually shorter and the string angle is sharper at full draw.

There is a whole world of accessories and technology that opens up for the owner of an archery compound bow. Top grade accessories such as sights, even scopes, string peeps, bubble levels, stabilizers, and mechanical releases are items that you can add to your bow as your wallet permits. Mechanical releases are often used in compound bow archery because they help the archer hold and release the string steadier.  A compound bow can be shot from a completely stationary full draw postion with no arrow movement across the arrow rest. It can be shot using just your fingers or with one of the many mechanical releases available on the market.

The most important thing to keep in mind when purchasing any archery compound bow is to make sure that the your bow is fitted to you for draw length, draw weight and bow length as well. What makes it easier to fit a compound bow today is that many have about a 3 inch adjustment in draw length built in without having to change the pulley size.

Bottom Line: Just be sure to adjust the draw length and draw weight on your bow to fit you. The bow should be set up for you and only you. If you are not sure if the bow you want to purchase is going to fit right, visit your local sporting goods store or archery supplier and get fitted. Then come back to visit us to find your new compound bow at the right price.
